What would it take to convince you that Ellen White was not a messenger of God?

What would it take for you to consider the possibility that Ellen White was a false prophet? We are quick to evaluate other so called "prophets" and objectively weigh the evidence. It's easy to say, "Clearly Joseph Smith or Ernie Knolls aren't true prophets," but if someone even dares bring up evidence against EGW we are told, "Stop bashing her - she was a nice lady who loved God..." Ok, great. I'm not trying to consider whether she was a "nice lady" or evaluate her love for God. But we should be able to objectively consider whether or not she was a prophet.

1 Thessalonians 5:19-21; "Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."

She made strong claims about where her writings came from. She made it clear they weren't just her opinions, weren't taken from other humans, etc. She claimed she received them from God (often through an angel). See this blog for a multitude of examples of these claims - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002037417691#!/note.php?note_id=197258963619540

So really - what would it take to convince you that she was a false prophet?
  • Prophesies she made that didn't come pass? She has those! This is what the Bible says about that - Deut. 18:22 - "If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him."
  • Contradicting the Bible? She did that many times - in big and little details. Here are just a few examples - http://www.truthorfables.com/EGW_Contradicts.htm
  • Lying about where her information came from? Yep! The SDA Church even admits it, though they gloss it over and make it seem like it was no big deal. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002037417691#!/note.php?note_id=197258716952898
  • Come from the same movement and time-period as other self-proclaimed prophets which birthed new churches? Read "It's Ok NOT to be a Seventh-Day Adventist" for a great history of this - I have the book, and you're welcome to borrow it!
  • Take Scriptures out of context and twist them to "prove" per points? Oh yeah! The longer I'm out of Adventism, the more I see how much this is true. It's the reason we as Adventists believed that she & the Bible lined up. She uses lots of Scripture in her writings, but she takes them out of context and makes them say something completely different. One easy example to cite is her use of Is. 66:22-23 to prove that the Sabbath will be kept in heaven and the new earth - and yet somehow that doesn't prove that we will keep the New Moon too...?
  • Focus on things that the Bible warns against? You be the judge. Rom. 4:17 - "For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit..." 1 Cor. 8:8 - "But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do." Col. 2:16 - "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day." 1 Tim. 4:1-7 - " The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer. If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, brought up in the truths of the faith and of the good teaching that you have followed. Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly." Does any of this sound familiar?

Want to learn more? This is not a conspiracy-theory site. It shows evidence against EGW being a true prophet. Check out the evidence for yourself an make an informed decision. http://www.ellenwhiteexposed.com/

This is not a subject we should be neutral on. EGW makes bold claims about herself and her messages. The Adventist Church takes a strong position on her. "As the Lord's messenger, her writings are a continuing and authoritative source of truth which provide for the church comfort, guidance, instruction, and correction." (Fundamental belief #18) How can you remain neutral on the matter? Either she was God's messenger and should be followed carefully, or she was a false prophet and should be disregarded and warned against.

(P.S. - If your answer is "Nothing" - "There is nothing that you can say that will convince me that she's a false prophet" - then maybe you should consider why you have such a vested interested in keeping her as a prophet...)
